Insight Training Day

BMS International Centre, Selly Oak

On Saturday June 11th the team made their way to the BMS International Centre in Selly Oak for a training day.

Right from the opening welcome and 'house rules' the day challenged us to think differently about
our trip and made everything feel just a little bit more real.

Being asked to remove our shoes before entering worship and then to go into worship by gender and sit separately, as well as using different languages during worship all created a bit of a culture shock!

As for being asked to eat lunch - a vegetarian curry - without cutlery...well...that was an interesting experience!  My naan bread became an essential tool and I think my fingers will stay stained yellow for a couple of days at least!

It was good to spend some time reflecting on the Bible and to discuss the practicalities for the trip (We decided mosquito repellent would be essential, but perhaps not pepper spray!) We also discovered a little more about the activities we will be engaging with whilst in Kolkata.

In all, a great day that helped to build us up as a team, with the very helpful staff from the centre there to answer all our questions and raise our excitement for what will be a very challenging, but enriching trip.
